Hiding among the trees may conceal one from human eyes, but it does not make one invisible to the Maker of the garden. Just as Adam and Eve sought cover among the leaves after their disobedience, thinking they could escape the gaze of the Almighty, so too do we sometimes attempt to hide our faults, fears, and failures from God. Yet no shadow is deep enough, no forest dense enough, and no veil thick enough to obscure us from the One who formed us.
God sees beyond our hiding places, not with condemnation, but with love that calls us back to Him. He does not seek to expose us for shame, but to bring us into the light of grace. Like a loving Father, He asks, “Where are you?” not because He does not know, but because He desires us to come to Him willingly.
No amount of covering can make us unseen by the One who knit us together, who knows our thoughts before we speak, and who searches the depths of our hearts. Instead of hiding, may we step forward, for in His presence, there is not only justice, but mercy; not only knowledge, but redemption. For the Maker of the garden is also the Giver of grace, and in Him, we are truly found.
Among the trees, they sought to hide,
Where leaves and shadows stood as guide.
Yet though they fled and bowed in shame,
The Maker still called out their name.
Did they not know His eyes could see,
Beyond the bark, beyond the tree?
No branch too thick, no shade too deep,
Could veil the souls He vowed to keep.
With trembling hearts, they heard His voice,
A question asked, yet not by choice.
“Where are you now? Why do you flee?”
His love still reached where they might be.
We too may run, we too may hide,
With fear and guilt locked deep inside.
Yet every shadow, every space,
Is filled with light and endless grace.
For He who made both earth and skies,
Still sees the tears in hidden eyes.
Not to condemn, not to betray,
But draw us near, not turn away.
So let us step from where we hide,
And walk with Him, arms open wide.
For though we fear, His love remains,
The Maker calls, and grace sustains.
