The world in Noah’s time was filled with corruption, violence, and wickedness. Humanity had turned from God, building their lives on sin and selfish ambition. Genesis 6:5 describes how “every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.” The earth, once created in perfection, had become a place of rebellion. But while the people built their lives on fleeting pleasures, Noah built something different—he built in faith.
When the flood came, it did not spare the mighty or the weak, the rich or the poor. The cities, the wealth, the monuments of human pride—all were consumed by the waters of judgment. What man had built in defiance crumbled in an instant. Yet in the midst of destruction, one structure remained: the ark.
The ark was not a monument of power or pride but a vessel of obedience and trust. Noah did not design it to impress the world; he built it according to God’s instructions (Genesis 6:14-16). It was crafted not by human ambition, but by divine direction. And because it was built in faith, it endured when everything else was swept away.
This truth echoes throughout history. The things built on sin and self-will may stand for a time, but they will not last. Wealth fades, kingdoms fall, and human strength withers. But what is built on faith—on obedience to God’s word—will endure. The flood did not simply bring destruction; it brought renewal. The ark was not just a survival craft; it was a vessel of God’s promise, carrying Noah and his family into a new beginning.
Even today, when the storms of life come, when the world’s foundations crumble, only what is anchored in God will stand. Sin may build high, but faith builds strong. And when the waters rise, only what is built in faith will remain.
The world built in sin was swept away,
By waters deep and skies of gray.
The mighty fell, their towers tall,
No strength could stand, no wall could call.
Their hands had shaped their fleeting gain,
Yet none endured the coming rain.
The earth was filled with wicked pride,
Until the flood rose far and wide.
But there, upon the raging tide,
A single vessel did abide.
Not built in power, nor in might,
But by God’s word, it sailed the night.
Noah heeded, plank by plank,
While others mocked, their voices rank.
Yet when the storms began to roar,
Their laughter rang in vain no more.
For sin-built homes were torn apart,
But faith had built a steady ark.
The waters crushed what man had made,
Yet faith alone remained unscathed.
So when the world builds high in vain,
And trusts in what will wash away,
Build not in sin, but firm in grace,
And you will stand through every wave.
